DogZ Program
Operation
Manual Mode
Internet Import Mode
One of the best features of DogZ
is the ability to import data from the internet.
With manual entry, data is
entered directly from the Dog Track Program booklet into the
program. This can take a while to enter all dogs in a race. With the
import mode a complete race can be calculated in under a minute. Most Dog tracks have a
web site with the Program listing for a race in a text file format.
DogZ will get the correct data from this file and fill in the form for all
the dogs in a particular race. The figure below shows the Dog 1 entry
form. Click on Import then Internet and your favorite viewer will pop up.
Enter the
web site of the track you wish to import in the browser address
window. We'll use Birmingham for this example. On the Birmingham web site
starting page select Program and the screen below will be displayed. Find
the date of the race you wish to import. We'll import the race for Friday
Evening March 15. To import the Race Program file, right click on the
bmep0315.txt file, and select Save Target As... The Save As Window will
pop up. Save the file in the DogZ/RaceForm directory. You can now close
the browser and internet connection.

Once the Race form has been
downloaded and saved you are ready to handicap a race using the import
method. Look at the top of the DogZ program for the Track: Birmingham.
Verify that the track you are importing is displayed. If not Select
Import, then Track and pick the track you want to handicap. Double click
on the track, the window will close and the track will be displayed on the
taskbar.

Next Select Import, then Race and
the Open Window will pop up. To import the Race Program data select
the file and press Open. |
A window will pop up prompting you to enter the Race you wish to import.
Enter 5 and click Ok.

The race data will be imported as shown below. When all dog data has been
imported calculations are performed just as in the manual mode. First
press the Dog Calc button for each form, verifying the data imported and
the calculations are reasonable.
Next press the Race Calc button on any form to get the final results
screen. The dog with the highest total
number has the best odds to win. In this race Top Gunner with a Total of
79 has the best chance to win. That's all it takes to handicap a race
using the import feature! DogZ is just about as easy to use in the Import
mode as in manual except it's a lot faster.
